My 1967
Galaxie XL . . . OK, so I'll tell the truth. . . When I decided I wanted
to get back into the car hobby, about 7 or so years ago, I put some
pretty stringent qualifications on my selection. I had decided I wanted
a 1964 GALAXIE 500XL CONVERTIBLE. Should be pretty easy to find, right?
Not for me! Here is how I wanted it equipped. 1 - Has to be a
convertible. I have this thing against putting a metal top on my dream
car. 2 - Must be an XL. I need good buckets that fit my bucket. 3 - Had
to be a V-8. Who would ever put a 6 in a large sedan? You ever hear a 6
with glass packs? Yuuuuuukkk! 4 - Had to be at least a 390. When you're
out there staring down a Chebby, you had better be able to back it up. 5
- And lastly, it had to have a four speed toploader. When you're setting
at a stop light or stop sign, how could you ever play any tunes on your
pipes with a C-6? Well, needless to say I never found this classic. I
kept searching the web sites dealing in cars and about 5 years ago I got
very lucky. On the G.C.O.A. website, up jumped a 1967 Galaxie 500XL
Convertible with a 7-Litre engine and a four speed toploader. Have I
died and gone to heaven or what? Having known people that are into
7-Litres, I was aware of the limited number of cars equipped this way in
the mid 60's. So, I studied that picture of the '67 7-Litre for about,
well, at least 10 seconds, and as they say, the rest is history.
