Road trip to the USA in a Galaxie

Hello, I am a member from Norway who did realize my dream for many years this

spring. After searching the internet for two years I found a 63 Galaxie Convertible in

Utah, a car who was totally rust free, but needed some work. I am lucky who has a

good friend, Geoff in San Marcos who would help me get the car right, so I shipped

the car to him. He contacted Dave and Skip at Turin International and they started to

restore the car. I had bought a 63 _ 500 XL from Skip one year earlier who was perfect,

so I trusted them completely to do everything right.

First I wanted to go for a red car, but Geoff thought there was to many red cars, be

special he said and I agreed. We spent five weeks trying to find the right color, I found

one green I liked and mailed over, “no” he said, “I have never fancy that shade of

green”. “-But it’s my car I said, “Yes, I know, but it is standing in my driveway” he

replied he he. “No, we better find a color we both like” And we did. Then it was to

find a color to the interior who would match.

We also send the car to John at MUSCLE CAR ALLEY for totally restore and overhaul

the undercarriage and also do the engine job. New carb, gaskets, radiator, distributor

and such. The engine we left as original as it run really smooth.

The first test trip went to the Goodguys meeting in San Diego. The car worked fine,

and I was happy, cause in the next weeks it should really get a lot of miles. My first

experience that the car made people look was when sitting in front of a red light, and

a car with some nice girls next to me honking their horn and wave. You have to love

the life in a Galaxie!

Then our trip went from San Marcos, thru Sedona in Arizona to Santa Fe in New

Mexico. From there we went to Durango in Colorado and then it was heading back

again, thru the desert and Lake Havasu. I tell you, driving the desert with the top down

was everything I had been dreaming about! It took us three weeks to finish the trip,

and the Galaxie was spinning like a cat the whole time.  We came back just to make

the Cruizing Grand in Escondido Friday night, cool happening every Friday night thru

the summer.

Sunday we drove up to the Knotts Berry Farms Ford event, I did not knew I had to be

there early to get in, so my car was parked outside, but still great to be there!

For more pictures of my car, and from the road trip, click into my web page at and

scroll down. You will also find pictures of my other cars. I have a 1966 Mustang, aqua

blue, original black plate car with originally options disc brakes, a/c and pony interior.

Original paint! A rare car which my daughter at 21 love to use I also have a 1947 Cadillac,

2 door fastback, and a 1950 Cadillac, kind`a Soft Hot Rod.  My everyday car thru the

summer is a 70 F-250, all original. In wintertime I use my 78 Bronco. Since I living in

Europe I also have a 75 Mercedes 450 SL, -bought in California actually I also have a

couple of Harley’s who are in use the whole summer, one I built myself and one I imported

from California.

I have a small business importing cars from USA to Norway, and the Ford’s are what I prefer. In

between really special and nice cars like the ones I have kept come along, and they become keepers

and not for sale.
